Over thinking equipment

I have actually met Elliott Erwitt, and discussed photography with him. He's still working (commercially) and shoots Tri-X though a Leica if I recall. His prints are still made in the darkroom. When I saw his exhibit, I was surprised to see how sharp the very large prints were from 35mm, not to mention tonality. It's the single moment where I decided I wanted to shoot film again and forget digital (though I still shoot digital too).
 
Aaaaaand if you look at most of the photos in the show (not just Mr. Erwitt's), there's no emphasis on bokeh, 3d effect, micro contrast and all that nonsense. It's all about telling stories.

of course these usually don't make much sense in documentary / social documentary photography but nevertheless they are viable possibilities in the wide field of photography
