Overainting a chrome lens black. How to?

Hello Photographers,

I would like to overpaint a chrome Elmar.
Of course it would be better removing the chrome first, but I dont feel able to do this on my own, especialy without serious damage to the mechanics of the lens.

So the question is which paint would you chose to do this?

I have some nice oil colours at home, maybe the only water resistant stuff I got, but I'm sure there is more.

How would you do it?

If you don't remove the chrome, you're going to have to use something like an epoxy to get decent adhesion. Two-part automotive chassis paint or firearms coatings are probably the way to go for durability. Thin them down and apply with an airbrush. As always, prep is everything, so you'll need to gently rough the surface and make sure it is absolutely clean.
 
You WILL have to remove the optical group,

These old lenses barely hold dust out, let alone thinned airisolized paint.

Ide reccomend atleast attempting to remove the chrome, this can be done relatively easy with oven cleaner spray.

Rough up the nickel with some fine sandpaper,


As for paint, I use Rustoleum products.
For no other reason, than it being what I know.

Ive tried Testors brand Model paint, with some success.
