Overexposing Film

Hello all,
My question is, when I bring my film to the lab, do I tell them to develop it as if it was shot at whatever speed I shot it at or do I just have them develop it at the actual film speed?
Thank you.

Unlike B+W film, where development time is dependent on exposure and film speed, ALL C-41 films have the same development time, regardless of rated speed. They're made that way so that they can be run through an automated processor anywhere.

I agree with the +1stop crowd, that's what works best for me.

Well isnt what important is they look normal to you ? Certainly look good to me. What film did you use, Portra i guess.

Oh yes, of course. They look good to me I just wanted to see what others thought of the exposure. I actually used Kodak High Definition, which is supposedly reboxed Kodak Gold 400 from what I've read.

Thanks for the advise on how to shoot Reala, bigdog. Those shots are actually not from Reala, but I'll have to try it out in similar conditions.

Uhligfd...I think I'm going to get a film scanner so I can eliminate that variable (and cost) from my work flow.

Projectbluebird...good to know. That's what I thought I had read, but I wasn't able to find anything in writing to back that up. I actually have two shots from that roll which I accidentally exposed at ASA 80 instead of 400 and they came out remarkably well exposed.
