My M6 needs a CLA as well as a rewind crank straightening. Also--the bent crank has ground away the black where it contacts the top plate, leaving shiny zinc. And of course the RF adjustment. So...no customization needed; I just want to put it right.
As far as I can tell, I've got three options:
Sherry in NYC, DAG way out west...Oregon? or Youxin which, if he's still in Canton, MA, is a short drive from me.
I understand they're all good, but where would you send your M6, and why?
Thanks,
CJ

But I'm biased - he lives up the road from me
(and does GREAT work, is trained in Solms and Wetzlar, and is reasonably priced)

I have never used any of them, and have heard good things about all of them.
However, there is something to be said about being able to drop an item off to save on shipping that appeals to me.

I've used Sherry and most recently Gerry Smith in Toronto. Both have done top-notch work. Sherry rebuilt a very sad M5, turning it into a wonderful camera again and Gerry just did a quick turnaround on the wind-on after something seems to have gone south, and threw in a shutter tune-up, as it was off very occasionally.
That said, if you can drop it off and have a one-on-one conversation with the tech that makes it all the better. I met Sherry this summer when I picked up a camera, and Gerry in Montreal at a Leica event. Great to have a face to go with a voice on the phone or an email.

IIRC, Youxin only works with the older M's without electronics.
That said, with DAG and Sherry left, I'd go for Sherry. I've heard nothing but praise for her work. I had a lens cleaned by DAG a year ago and it took him well over three months (!) to perform a $50 job. Apparantly, he's got quite a backlog...

This is what Youxin emailed me regarding which M models he works on:
"I repair upto M4-P, and certain jobs on classic M6."
He has CLAd two Ms for me, with same day turnaround, in the past month.

I have worked with Youxin & DAG. Both are great. Youxin is much quicker and if he will work on your M6 then I think you should send it to him. Don Goldberg's town (not state) is called Oregon. As I recall it's in Wisconsin.
