Owner of pay to enter photo competition wins own competition

I kept scrolling further and further down the page trying to give the guy the benefit of the doubt but it kept getting smarmier and smarmier.

What a great idea! I just don't see how its legal, let alone ethical, but I see so much potential..... Hmm. Now I wonder what I'll call my new contest? Oh, maybe I'll have a contest to determine the name of the contest! -- That'll be $5 per entry. Send 'em in folks!

Was just looking at the winners of all the categories, and Sal Cincotta (the organizer) has won in almost all categories including the grand prize. His images are good for sure, but he shouldn't be entering or being considered by the judges for any of his images in my opinion. I would think the point of running a competition is to see what others are doing, not what you are doing photographically.

I think the most bizarre angle of this is how many people (on Cincotta's side) think that winning your own contest motivates people to enter it to compete with you.

Entry money, and prizes aside, isn't that one of the weirdest things anybody has ever heard? They may as well have said that they think randomly burning one entry in every category will motivate people to enter their best work.

Well, by example, he sets the bar pretty high on the quality of work expected in the competition. Assuming the judging was fair and impartial as they claim, I find it pretty impressive that he made such a sweep of the winnings. We often judge the level of respect for the advice of an "expert" by the quality of his work, perhaps unfairly, but he settled that didn't he. 🙂

Just curious how common it is for one individual to perform so strongly in any competition? I've no idea as I have never been involved in such a thing, but I would guess that it is not a common feat.

He isn't that good IMO.
