Strange how a picture can get some people flustered. He should have painted the bank surrounded by mortgage holders shoveling their cash in the front door. The bank would have bought it.
We're only supposed to paint pictures of flowers. And only use camera phones outside.

Damn, just when we figured pretending to be a painter was an excellent disguise!

If you haven't been to his site you should go there. He is a pretty good painter. The painting that got him in "trouble" is currently selling on ebay for over 1k.

That's a bloody good way to advertise yourself! His painting is now going for over $1500, and still 8 days left.

In general the whole thing does seem silly. But remember that someone apparently called the police and complained. With all the fear over terrorism, they would probably be taken to task if they didn't at least respond and ask the questions they did. As to the detectives follow up, I don't know. The bank spokesman sounded serious, so perhaps they felt pressured.
It's hard to know where to draw the line sometimes. But if you want money from a government for a project, you will be two steps ahead of your competition if you can tie it to antiterrorism. And yet terrorists certainly seem to want to harm the western world, so as I said, where do you draw the line? No caution or too much? Sad no matter.

Don't laugh..
Do you know that this question is asked to any non US citizen entering the US territory, along with asking on the HS form if you don't plan any criminal or illegal activity?
How smart is that?

I just hope no painter dares having a donut in flames. They'd get the treatment.

Seems mostly CYA by both bank and police, on the slim chance that the guy does want to torch the bank.
In which case he would be an arsonist, not a terrorist. To many people watching too many dumbed down TV shows, including the cops.

If any of you are in London tonight and would like to chat about artists who are sometimes confused as terrorists, I'm hosting a talk with 2 artists who sometimes have to deal with this crap. Check out the link if you'd like to come.

Christ. I am working on a similar project, and the first time I showed this, I got the comment, "It's too soon. It looks like the buildings are falling down. This makes it look like 9-11."

"I have this feeling I'll get different treatment at airports from now on."
Probably the most scaring aspect of the whole story.
To know that the way authorities treat you, possibly for many years to come, is influenced by an opinion on your artistic perceptions and work that some half-witted officer has entered into some automated system.

Maybe. Bidders on a lot of these eBay auctions that turn into news events just bid items up to exorbitant values and then don't pay.He sold the painting for $25,200 USD earlier today.
