Painting back the Kiev logo

Hi folks, I would like to repaint the Kiev/KNEB logo in front of my camera, I had to remove the paint because half of it was gone and felt it as unaesthetic.. what kind of paint should I use?

Hi Max!

I used the tiny pots of enamel paint that we used to use for plastic kits (in the UK they are 'Humbrol' brand), I went round with lots of gloss black and then wiped the surface leaving the paint in the grooves. The matt-black is excellent for the covering the back of the focus helical (open the shutter on B and work through the opening) and I found the semi gloss exactly matched the trim lines.

It isn't hard, have a go!

Use Lacquer paint to fill engravings. Buy a set or a single color from
micro-tools.com. It is like a paint crayon. Rub it in the engraving and wipe off the excess with a cloth. No paint brushes needed. No paint smudges or spills. It will harden in a few hours. Go to http://www.micro-tools.com/ to select your region and shop.

I've used this on several cameras. It is great. Much easier than painting!

I want something better than a water resistant marker, my dad has been touching up his Zorki-6 with such a marker, and I didn't like too much the result.. I might go for what Lance suggests, if I can find a way to avoid paying € 8.20 of shipment for an € 2.80 item 🙂

The shipping may be steep. Try bundling the lacquer stick with other things. You can get the box of several lacquer colors for $15US. Get a bottle of Pliobond for $2.89US. It is great for gluing down camera leatherette (sp?). You can get sheets of self adhesive leather like leatherette to replace worn or shrunk leatherette. That really dresses up old cameras. There are also hundreds of tools and other camera resources that are offered.

I used paint from revell (it's a german brand and I'm pretty sure you can get it at any normal model building shop in the czech rep.).

damn i didn't think about this! And I pass very often in front of such a shop... do you think they'd have matte paint that holds well ? 🙂

sure they will have matte paint, I've got some at home (painted some spots in the interior of my Zorki).

how about using Revell airbrush enamel paint with enamel primer and transparent finish after.... for the whole body?

this solution would be pretty cheap and easy obtainable with wide variety of colors....

the only question is how will it stand continuous abuse....
