Hello,

Next week I am heading out to California for work. I will virtually have no free time, except perhaps in Palmdale (Mohave desert), where I might have time to shoot some pictures in the late afternoon or very early next morning.

Can anyone recommend some easily accessible trails or other photogenic spots.

Thanks.

Mark,

This will be my first real chance to shoot colourful subjects since getting into RFs, so I will have some E6, probably Kodak 100ES. I might bring along a roll of Agfa Scala.

Google Earth shows Palmdale to be at the foothills of some mountains, hopefully I can take advantage of the location.

Michel,

You are in the heart beat of Film land (NYC) !! I would bring some Fujichromes and some E100VS like you listed, maybe some Kodachrome 64 too !! I would bring a variety of film and as much as you can carry in your carry on.
Super awesome !

I used to be stationed at Edwards AFB. I always found cool stuff just driving to the east of Palmdale/Lancaster where there are lots of dirt roads easily traversable by a 2 WD vehicle where you can find abandoned and weathered buildings, cars, and piles of junk people have dumped. If you're more into landscape, there are plenty of Joshua Trees around. Tehachapi and a little "town" called Keane are great too- less deserty/more hilly, but about 1/2 hr drive (north) from Palmdale.

Looks like Vasquez Rocks Natura Area might be a good spot for me. Less than 20 miles away and scenic enough that it has been used for several film shoots. Hopefully I'll have something worth posting, but I know that's up to me, not the rocks.

Thanks for your suggestions and if I find myself with more free time, I will try to go exploring.

Hear are some other potentially-photogenic sites to look up (mostly heading north from Palmdale): The town of Randsburg, Red Rock Canyon State Park, the windmills between the town of Mojave and Tehachapi, possibly the aircraft boneyard at Mojave airport (? don't know if it's publicly accessible).

Hope this helps,
