After browsing the 35mm Zuiko dud? thread I thought it would be nice to test my Panagor 35mm f2 a bit. I used the G35 mm as a reference. Most shots were at f5.6 or f8, yet the first shot of the series was at f4. There is some vingetting visible, but that might be the (generic) lens hood.
I must say I am very pleased with the results of this €30 lens. Next for some B&W testing at larger apertures 🙂.

Thanks for posting this comparison. The Panagor is visibly sharper than your copy of the G.Zuiko 35mm F2.8.

Personally, I am not surprised; my three Zuiko 35mm lenses have been mediocre, at best.

Close up, in bright sunlight, my two 35mm F2.8 lenses (single and multi-coated) are capable of usable output. However, both flare horrifically in contra lighting.

With regard to my 35mm F2 Zuiko; this particular lens is a dud, plain and simple.

Again, thanks again for posting these results. Hopefully, I will be able to find a Panagor for myself eventually!

Gustavo, you're welcome! I really like the lens a lot. Mind you, it is fairly rare and it is huge: 355 grs and a 58mm filtersize. it's bigger and heavier than my Zuiko 85mm🙂. Good luck with your hunt for the lens. ( I posterd some B&W images made with this lens at http://www.pbase.com/jajong/pngrfomo, I hope you like them)

Cheers,
Jan

The shots from your Zuiko is very soft.
I had a 35mm 1:2.8 and I don't remember it being that bad.

The above crop, is taken either wide open (cloudy day, slow film) or f/4.

And my Zuiko 35mm f/2 is not soft either. I have older threads here on RFF where I posted images from it.

Your Panagor seems to be a good lens. Good find!

I agree with you: that doesn't look bad at all. My 35mm zuiko is probably sub-par. Sample variation may be fairly large with zuiko 35s.

Cheers,
Jan
