I was in Taiwan early this year and luckily the EP-2 came out on the market at that time so I could get try it out. I really liked the EVF, and that comes from someone who (previously) despised such things. I could even use it with my glasses one, take that Leica M9..
In the end I decided not to get it and the reason was the lack of small fast lenses for the system (a 14/2.8 would have been great). I concluded it was not for me and moved on. I bought some B&W film instead before leaving.
Today I feel more interested in the Leica X1, but in the end I guess I will keep using film. It is cheaper and the cameras are better. Still there is the itch to avoid that dreadful scanning process.
The M4/3 system is in desperate need of more small lenses and a 14/2.5 would definitively have been a major asset at that time. Pity that Olympus does not release such lenses as I like their bodies better.
My photo-happy wife is a good candidate for the E-PL1, but she passed it since the lens is so big and she cannot really cope with the idea of having multiple lenses.
I think Olympus are losing potential customers big time by not putting more focus on small lenses.

Ok, I'm repeating myself here (from another thread).
Olympus broke the mold and introduce a system that got popular due to its petite-size and excellent IQ. But instead of going all the way and continue to *create* their own mass market by fulfilling their own marketing campaign, leaving competitors to play catch-up, they couple their small cameras with big, slow zooms.
So the allure of compact, sleek image is contradicted by their own offerings. It will take somebody like Panasonic to prove the point. They already get my money instead of Olympus for the 20mm/1.7 lens. And I know for sure that I'm not the only diehard Oly fan who did this.
If Olympus have any ears on the ground at all, they would have been awaken.
Well put.

Don't get me wrong, folks. I do *wish* that Oly had a lovely range of super-sharp compact medium-to-fast primes for micro 4/3. Pleasingly, Panasonic is providing at least some of the key lenses, and they work well on both Pana and Oly bodies. Not such an awful situation, that.

I know this is OT, but does anyone have experience with, or have an opinion about, the Panasonic DMC-TZ5?

Look at how small it looks on the GH2. Seems like the camera just gobbles it up. I might have to pick this up a year or so after release. (Waiting for the price drop.) I wonder how much bigger it would've been if they made it F2.

In the pancake comparison photo at the DPreview link, the 14/2.5 makes the 20/1.7 look big!

Thanks, RayPa. Guess there's no such thing as a perfect pocket-sized digital camera. Always seems to be compromises somewhere. I'd rather have the noise than foolish attempts to eliminate it that downgrade the image in the process.

Mine too. The lens I've waiting for since it was announced way back when. I love 28mm FOV.

it's a goofy looking thing, but apparently, 3D is BIG at Photokina this year. Is 3D the next big thing?? It certainly would be fun to shoot 3D video with the G2H and this lens!

I have the previous model - the TZ3. Excellent lens! Not much manual control - just +/- 2 EV selection. I rarely use any ISO setting other than 100 because of noise reduction blurring.I know this is OT, but does anyone have experience with, or have an opinion about, the Panasonic DMC-TZ5?
Would I buy it again? Yes! Sorry about the OT response, not a hijacking attempt. Send me a PM if you have more questions.
I am looking forward to the release of the 14/2.5!!!!
