Anybody excited about this super zoom? Cheaper than Sony RX10.

I'm slightly skeptical.
-The 4K mode is cropped, so the wide is a 37.5mm equiv or something.
-The sensor is not the backlit Sony sensor like everyone thought, apparently (this is what I've been reading, could be wrong).
-It's up for debate whether or not this camera will feature the maligned pixel-binning process for its video capture. The RX10 has a full pixel readout for its video, and is downsampled as it is processing.
-No 24p framerate. 30p in 4K.
So, this is apprently pretty appealing to filmmakers, but without the full pixel readout, I think the RX10 will probably end up looking better (at least in 1080p). The smooth aperture ring and the constant-aperture lens are also better suited to filmmaking than what the Panny is offering. Also, no 24fps in 4K so that it doesnt cannibalize the GH4. No weather sealing. No built-in ND. Smallest aperture is f/8 according to a translated Japanese Panny site. Don't know if that is true or not.
---
So with all that said, I'm sure this will be a helluva travel superishzoom. But it's also quite large. Small DSLR-sized. If I had the money to spend on a bridge camera, I might still go with the RX10. It seems like the better package. Even though it's 400 usd more expensive.
But I guess we'll see how performance stacks up when the reviews and comparisons arrive.

There is the lx8 rumor and the x30 both using 1 inch sensors as well.. If it is about video.. Then it is down to Sony and Panasonic offerings.

I think those who have pointed out that it's on the large size have hit the nail on the head.
I've owned both Panasonic and Olympus super-zooms in the past while my wife is currently using a Panasonic FZ38. I feel that these cameras are only advantageous if they provide a compact package and my wife's FZ38 is probably as big as most customers will want. When you get to this size and price, the G series looks more attractive, from my point of view.
Also, as I think the Olympus shot below illustrates, the combination of small sensors and very wide zoom range is always a problem...
Still, I imagine that Panasonic have done their research and think they have it right.

Nice video review by camerastoretv on the camera. Some comparison info between fs1000 vs gh4 and fs1000 vs rx10. For those thinking about rx10, it does appear the fs1000 should be considered.

From the video, it does appear which u might pick may depend a lot on what type of video capability that u require as Samourai has mentioned.

Thanks, I like this guy's reviews. It seems like the Panasonic is pretty killer for stills. But I'd still bet on the RX10 for video, even with the price difference. Really unimpressed with the FZ1000's video quality and operation. Maybe the Sony'll drop in price after Panny releases its bridge camera.

I am not a video type.. I could be wrong.. But for the difference in size and the availability of good csc lenses in m43, it seems to me the gh4 could be the best compromise of everything so far. Anyway, not really interested in picking any of these three cameras...for now the gx7 is good enough for my needs in terms of video. They do show what the possible future holds for the rest of the 1 inch sensor competition such as the lx8 or x30 though.
I would be more interested in a Panasonic that went more directly after the rx10 in terms of a 24-120f2.0 w/ a manual zoom ring and weatherproof much like the old Sony r1.

I'm looking at purchasing this camera instead of a 6D and lens for a trip at the end of the year. The price seems very good, hopefully the rest of it is.

RX10 on sale for just under $1k on Amazon (hopefully it'll drop on BH and Adorama so tax can be avoided). There's the price drop in anticipation of the Panny.
