i sold my entire micro four thirds setup, but dont think i will ever let go of my GF1 and 20mm 1.7 combo.
lumix does make some nice cameras, but i think recently their strategy of releasing cameras like crazy (along with olympus and sony) is tiring me out and tuning me out to their cameras.
i remember back then it was only the g1, g2, and gf1. and everybody was electrified with the GF1 when it came out. kept its value pretty good for a year or two until the market got over saturated with GF1 to GF elenventybillion.

Day late and a dollar short personally. Fuji completely took olympus and panasonics opportunity and ran with it. Does it even have double dials? How are you supposed to change the aperture and shutter speed simultaneously?

I completely agree. This is the main reason I have been slowly unwinding from my ownership of m43rds.
The price of the GH-3 in the UK, for example, although it has gone down slightly does not equate with its IQ to other cameras at the same price. And the same can be said of the glass.
When I bought into m43rds about 3-4 years ago the cost of ownership was much more reasonable - enough to justify the system as a backup and even main system. However, throught the evolution - I owned both a GF-1 and still have a GH-2 body the IQ has been a major sticking point, especially as high-iso levels.
The pricing is equivalent to most mid-level N&C DX type cameras which have better high-iso performance. In fact the pricing in the UK is not that far removed from the new entry level FX cameras like the D600.
On top of that I came to the conclusion that m43rds is ultimately a dead end. It is not like you can produce a 'full-frame' m4rds sensor - it is always going to be limited to its specified dimensions and packing more pixels will only degrade performance further.
I appreciate there is a dedicated following of enthusiasts and even professionals using the kit but I think you can spend your money more wisely and for the same price get a far better system.

I tend to agree. I think Panasonic has designed an interesting camera. Given that everyone's p&s sales has been hurt by smartphone... They need products like this.
I am sure there are going to be a certain number of folks that will want to be first on the block ... But until price drops below 1000, it will be a bit of a hard sell. Just to many other cameras out there competing in or below that same price level.

Re DOA, my earlier snark was merely wondering why there was no logical sequence of model numbers--they didn't go from G1 to G7, or GF1 to GF14. Perhaps it's about trademark infringement issues or something else I don't comprehend (or care a hoot about).
I really am happy to have the GX1, especially for $250! It's a good home for the 20 1.7 and 14 2.5. I'm also happy to have the waist level focus capability afforded by the add-on tiltable VF, as I am with the GXR analogue (and OMZ Varimagni, and Rollei, Autocord...). With adapters for M, LTM, Konica AR, M42...

I see a lot people who may have upgraded to the Pen E-P5 before this announcement, now will make this the "Upgrade" instead... Who like the option of Pen like form factor but with a built-in WL EVF when needed.

I doubt it. Olympus and Panasonic DXO marks have been in the upper 50s for years. The same old sensor in a new skin. Now Olympus is using Sony sensors. I doubt Sony is going to be out done by Panny anytime soon.

I know but the Oly has a Sony sensor. I don't think Sony is going to hand over to them a better sensor than what's in the NEX series. They may be close but certainly not a NEX killer.

Hey, I'm snarky too.
At first I though I had been through a time warp and somehow missed a whole generation of cameras.
The perception of time does speed up as we get older but this is ridiculous.
If the image stabilization is as good as the OMD and the tilt EVF is as good as the NEX 7, this could be a very nice camera. Probably not good enough to make me give up my X-E1 though. 🙂

Paradoxically it made me like my E-M5 even more. It will be interesting to see if it keeps its price as well. It might depend on the sensor, video and other such factors.
Despite detractors I find that m4/3 offers me more than enough IQ . It is time to develop more projects for it, not less.

Ignoring the GH line, G and GF is already at 6.
I think they decided it's better to make the number of GX match its siblings so when it's put on display of those big volume camera stores, clueless buyers with no brand allegiance won't thought it's the model from four/five generations earlier.
Besides... 7 looks like 2 without the underscore
