I'm glad it is, it will be easier to hold with that nice grip and should prove balanced in the hand this way. It's size is right in line with my ideal compact, interchangeable lens camera: the Leica CL. The industry is edging closer and closer to producing what I want (a digital version of that camera) slowly. :)

I feel the same way.. Digital equiv of the Leica CL... :D.. My all time favorite combo has always been a CL w/ the Minolta 40f2.

This gx7 matched w/ Panasonic 20f1.7 or the Fuji xe1 w/ their 27f2.8 come soooo close. From Sony, if only Sony made a 27-28 pancake lens then there would also be the Nex 6 added to the mix...

When I first got back into photography, it was the Panasonic gf1 w/ the 20f1.7 that attracted me. I still have that combo w/ the evf added.

Within few months time I will be buying some mirror less camera. The GX7 looks nice, but the lack of external mic and weather sealing will make the choice harder. But maybe there will be new OMD out already.

There are a lot of choices and none of them are bad. Take your time and pick one you like ... and realize that you might want a different one a bit later anyway. :)

Godfrey - the large number of great choices will indeed be the part that will take the most time in choosing the camera :)

But I do not want to derail the thread - the GX7 does look very interesting. The EVF specs sound tempting.
 
Yep great choices lately and most likely more to come in the next coming months before the Xmas buying season starts :D for those looking for a new camera.

One company I hope comes back w/ a next gen is Ricoh Gxr. They seemed to have withdrawn their gxr offering. W/ the success of their GR offering I hope they come back to the csc side. I loved the a12 m module they had.

Still have mine. So far, it's the best performer with RF lenses in the digital space aside from the Ms themselves. It would be good to see an updated body and camera unit for M lenses, they could make it entirely dedicated to M-mount and forget the interchangeable camera units, for that matter. Ricoh could easily produce a few of their own and Pentax design lenses in M-mount.

The GX7 is more convenient with the built in finder. It's a 'one body has it all' solution. If it also works well with M lenses, it'll be hard to resist. :)

I looked at Panasonic's website and watched all of the videos about the GX7. With the finder, tilting LCD and larger size, it is looking better and better to me. The silent electronic shutter is great. I almost always use my GH3 in the "stealth" mode.

At least with the top model. They could still satisfy the "LCD forever..." -crowd with the other Pen models.
 
Just watched this video that was posted via the Steve Huff website. It is pretty tempting to say the least. Panasonic looks like they have a winner here. Can't wait for u guys to post some impressions and those pics :D... Of ourselves.

I like the way the built-in evf can be tilted up.. The 20mm w/ that camera body is killer. If ibis is as good as Olympus omd and sensor iq is equiv.. I might switch over, since I ave always liked the UI and menu system of Panasonic.

I traded some of my old Canon gear (10D, ELAN7, 3 EF lenses, and some shoe mount flashes). I received enough for a GX7 and extra battery. I walked out with over $100 in my pocket and since it was a trade there is no tax due. I don't believe I would be getting the GX7 otherwise. Now I have to wait until the stores order arrives. I am not expecting an arrival time any sooner than October. The store owner thinks they shipment will arrive a lot sooner than that.

This is not the greatest, but it will give a relative size comparison between the GF1 and GX7 bodies.

Here is a front view of the GF1 superimposed on the GX7. The GX7 is not a whole lot larger than the GF1. Note that the lens mount on the GX7 is offset a bit more to the right than it is on the GF1. This allows for the larger grip on the GX7 (and electronics too).

You said it! The thing is a brick. According to camera size.com, excluding protrusions the GX-7 is 22% heavier and an amazing 47% THICKER than an Olympus E-P5.

Is the extra weight and size a fair price to pay for a built-in EVF? Depends on your needs I suppose. If you are viewfinder-centered shooter or use a lot of manual focus lenses than, yes. Otherwise, a smaller more elegant camera with the flip out LCD screen might well be a better instrument.
