The only major physical difference between the GX7 and E-P5 is the weight. The greater thickness of the GX7 is due to the larger grip and the EVF when it is in the down position. Otherwise, the E-P5 and GX7 are very similar in size.

To me gx7 dimensions/shape look more favorable than compressed and chick-gripped gf1 and e-p5. Size matters!

The weight, at about 8-9 oz, doesn't bother me at all.

The shape of the camera reminds me of the L1 (a bit smaller and tidier) which was a great camera in the hand for real use.

Looking forward to seeing it in person.

I spent about two hours today handling and talking about the GX7. It feels right in my hands. The grip is substantial although not as large as the GH3 grip. With the lens mount moved to the far right (looking at the front of the body) there is ample room for the controls. I am very pleased with the feel of the GX7 (both size and weight). The online photos of the silver body do not do it justice.

If you were/are a fan of the GF1 then I think you will find the GX7 to be a worthy successor. I was told to expect to see mine the third week of September.

I complained about the battery to the Panasonic rep today. The only u4/3 cameras I have owned that use the same battery are the G1 and GF1. The GX7 uses the same battery as the GF6. It would be nice to only need one type of battery for the GH3 and GX7. It is a none issue for me because both of the batteries are high capacity.

More rumors about the delivery date - September 9th. I can't substantiate this date I saw on another forum. I wish it was a few days earlier as I will be at sea on a cruise on the 7th. Oh well, the camera will be waiting for me when I return if the rumor is true. I've plenty of gear for the cruise.

Whereas I cannot confirm Peter's comment concerning Lord Denning's average "man on the Clapham omnibus," in terms of its market, the price sounds too high in comparison to price and performance of the GX -1. I like m4/3 for its portability and speed of focus, but cannot see paying the same price as the GH-3.

It was my understanding that the GX7 uses 2-axis IBIS, similar to the entry level Oly m43 cameras. The OMD and EP5 use a totally different (and unsurpassed by any other manufacturer) 5-axis IBIS solution. When I shoot video on my OMD it almost acts like a built-in steadycam rig! Too bad they don't offer cinema-suitable codecs and compression or every cinematographer would buy one as a back up for challenging shots.

Whether the GX7 has an AA filter or not has not been confirmed in any of the reviews, press releases, or rumor sites that I've seen.

HOWEVER, Panasonic led the way with light to non-existent AA filters with both the L1 and L10 DSLRs, and continued the practice of a lightweight AA with the Lumix G system from the start, the G1.

I suspect the GX7 will continue with this same approach.

Yes the price is higher than the GX1, but includes the best EVF I have seen to date. The price is $300.00 less than the GH3 when I purchased mine. I traded in some unused Canon gear that more than covered the $999.99 for the GX7. Since it was a trade deal there are no added taxes. If it weren't for this trade I would not have ordered the GX7.

The date I posted was just a rumor. The Panasonic rep at the GX7 demonstration told me that shipping to retail stores are scheduled to arrive between the 16th and 20th of September. After the retail store's orders are filled then the internet dealers (Adorama, B&H, etc.) will be receiving their cameras. I just checked B&H. They say the 29th. Sorry for posting the earlier date. I could have worded the post better. I was mainly interested if any updates had surfaced. The GX7 will arrive sooner or later. I had a list of questions to ask the Panasonic rep, but forgot to ask about the AA filter. I am guessing it will be similar to the GH3.

Does anyone know if the tilt-able EVF can be locked into the non tilted position?

I had a tilt-able EVF on the Konica Minolta Dimage A2, years ago, and it was a terrible pain. It did not lock in the normal (non tilted position) and carrying the camera on a strap would invariably tilt the EVF up. You have to bring it back down, every time. I solved the problem with Velcro, but it was not elegant.

The tilt-able EVF in that camera...also, is almost always found not working, because the ribbon connecting the EVF to the board, failed from all the tilting/flexing.

The next camera from Konica Minolta was sans the tilt-able EVF...

If it locks, great....if not....count me out. I'll wait for a model that does lock, or one that does not tilt.

The GX7 EVS is much sturdier than the one on the Minolta DiMage 7 (which I assume is the same or very similar to the A2 EVS). The Panasonic has a detent that holds it in the not tilted position. It also holds its position well at any angle. I had the chance to hold and check out pre-production GX7 serial #7. The EVF does protrude a bit and if I were going to use a neck strap I would carry it with the EVS in the vertical position more to protect the eyecup than the EVS itself. The eyecup on my DiMage 7 would catch on my shirt or jacket and fall off. The eye cup had to be reattached many times. The accessory eyecup for the GX7 is equipped with a small lanyard to secure it to the body. I plan to equip my GX7 with one of Gordy's wrist straps like the one on my GH3, so the EVS will stay in the down position. The camera feels very sturdy and well built with its magnesium body. I would suggest you check out the EVS when the GX7 is finally released if you have any doubts.

I hope you find the detent, and the Gordy stap suffecient, to tame a tilt-able EVF that cannot be locked into the default position.
