Panasonic LX100 review

Panasonic LX100 ?

Panasonic LX100 ?

Any experience or oppinion about it vs other light ,compact /small(ish) cameras ?
for street, travel ,taking anywhere ,low light/night handheld.

I am attracted by the whole lens/camera/evf package vs let's say , a e-pl5+12/2+20/1,7+45/1,8 + evf2/3/4

Another contender could be the GX7 (Lumix) + fast primes ?

IBIS and evf seem important for me

I have an EPL2 with a sigma 19 2.8 but borrowed an LX100 for my last trip.
Fantastic camera and it was nice to downsize the digital while I brought a Medium format along.

I think that a small ILC m43 with a prime isn't quite comparable to the LX, as the latter is more compact and has a retractable zoom.
Fantastic for travel and you can do nice video with it as well.

I had one for about 2 years. Loved everything about; size, image quality, retro, etc, but....I never could get right with EVF. I live in Sunny South Florida and I wear glasses that turn dark in bright light. So looking thru an EVF in bright sun truly sucks (at least to me). I got a Fuji X20. It has an OVF and I am happy. IT is my EDC.

Still shooting and enjoying the LX100. It is very retro in operation in manual mode. I will be back out with it again as soon as my eyes heal from cataract surgery.

Nice to see that this thread is still going strong. After 3 years with this camera I can only say that it is still going strong and that it is very often in my bag when going out. Perfect vacation and street camera.

@biomed: My wishes for at quick recovery!

Wow ! Great feed-back , thank you all !

Some experience vs the regular mft GX7 or e-pl 5/6/7 ?

I am curently using mostly a Fuji X20 wich is a great camera too ...I am tempted only by the better performance of the bigger sensor at high ISO ,otherwise the X20 is a splendid little cam.

PS : @biomed : have a quick recovery !

Do LX 100 users still think that it's worth it to get one now, a few years later? I'm seriously considering getting one, but not sure if I should wait for an updated version (not sure if one's coming, though).

Definitely! I still use mine a lot; back up camera for my (few these days) assignments, travel camera, macro shots for my web shop - and I tend to grab this camera whenver I am just going out to shoot. If I could have only one camera, I would choose the LX. It is versatile and the image quality it very good indeed.

I actually think this is a great street camera. Small, quiet, and hardly attracts any attention to it.

I use the (practically) the same D-Lux Typ 109. Here is one I snapped last night:

Johann, congratulations on capturing a very evocative image!

Triple respect for your commitment:
  • Street shooting
  • Night
  • RAIN
Each is a challenge. Combining all three and getting that result! Wow!
