Pancakes selection for the 4/3

Simple question. I am looking for the pancakes't lens combination that will retain AF and most of other features on the G1.

Obviously the Zuiko 17mm is the natural answer. But I would like to know if there is another possibility or combination with an equivalent of 50mm in 135mm film photography,

Otherwise I am afraid this tiny camera will remain as a weekends-only camera. So in that desperate case I will go for the Zuiko, despite my unhapiness with its focal length.

Cheers,
Ruben

PS,
And btw, am I right in assuming all G1 functions will apply to the Zuiko 17mm ?

The 50 2.8 pancake from Olympus is only slightly larger than the 17 and retains all the features when used with the standard~micro adapter. Because of the adapter, the lens will be a bit longer, but it is a 50mm equivalent. I own the lens, not as sharp as the 17, but still quite decent.

Very interesting positive vote for the 17. I guess it shouldn't be too surprising as the 17 is built specifically for the M43 standard and therefore should be better you would think.

I have been reading a lot about the EP-1, as you know, and there are a lot of users who are very happy with it but in my opinion are limiting their comments to the positives and not venturing into issues they may have with it.

I know you are using the camera regularly now and appreciate what I am seeing as a fair assesment of it as a tool.

The Olympus 25mm pancake works well on the G1 (with adapter) although it hunts momentarily each time you use AF unlike on an Olympus 4/3rds body. Still fairly quick AF though.

I agree with Steve, the 25mm 'cake works well with the G1. I do wish Panasonic would hurry up with their own pancake (1.7) as it's been a long time coming.

Oly 25mm Pancake - not too impressed on G1

Oly 25mm Pancake - not too impressed on G1

I found it to be much slower focusing on the G1 than either of the kit lenses. IIt is extremely noisy whilst attempting to achieve AF and the screw-on lens cap was very irritating. It also had a disappointing level of CA and actually, once mounted on the front of the 4/3 adapter it wasn't all that compact.

So I sold it.
