Hi folks,
I've been a happy chrome Nikon F user with plain prism.
However, lately I've been flirting with a nice chrome F2A that I got from a fellow RFFer. It is nice and handy to have a meter in the camera, especially if you do macro work. It is a hassle to try to figure out exposure compensation for degrees of magnification.

So, I contacted Sover Wong about the FTN meter prisms. He does work on them. However - he doesn't have CdS cells for them, only the F2 prisms. Furthermore, he said to watch out for desilvering of the prism from rotting foam - a common curse with these prisms. He advised me to find a prism in the best possible condition for him to work on.

Well, I've tried 2 chrome FTN prisms from KEH (Ex grade), and BOTH had desilvered prisms. All that KEH has left is a black FTN prism in Ex+ grade. They said they would check it for desilvering prior to sending it out.

What do you think? The F2A has a black prism on a chrome body. Somehow, I'm not used to seeing a black meter prism on a chrome F. Does this seem tacky to you? Anyone using such a panda setup? Pictures would be appreciated.

Dear Robert,

Swap out the front plate from a scrap chrome FTn?

Cheers,

R.

Interesting idea Roger!
KEH has some non-functioning prisms in BGN condition.

If it's just about cosmetics, visit a local sign company and get a small piece of matte black adhesive vinyl for a couple of dollars at most and slap it on the faceplate of your existing prism.
Done and done.
