For those who love this magic city in the same exaggerated and unresonable way as I love it I would like to point out my new gallery which I created today.

http://www.rangefinderforum.com/photopost/showgallery.php?cat=5110

I added the first 11 postcards I shot since my last visit there a week ago and the gallery will get completed during the next two weeks , there are still 7 rolls in the pipeline.

The lab scans are not overwhelming and the gallery software eats additional sharpness and so it is worth while to click on the images to get at least the original resolution in a second window.

Some of you might find the the shot of the Eiffeltower a bit crappy, and right they are.
It is posted just because of beeing the result of an experiment. We did not plan to go there at night and when we went there anyway I had no tripod with me and no lightmeter.

The Bessa L meter told me that 2 sec and f4 was not enuff and so I set the shutter on "B" and counted to 3,5 frozen behind my MONOpod !! 😀
Regarding the circumstances I find it surprising acceptable.

Soon more,
Bertram

Hi Bertram

there is absolutely no skill required to take pix in Paris! joke ;-)

The place is one of my most favourite cities. Any photos taken always look good.

This is all a bit of a send up. I went thru our gallery and can't wait to see the rest good or otherwise. Just seeing the place makes me light up. Be fearless put up shots that aren't 'technically perfect'.

I wish I saw more of Paris when I was there 🙁 There is so much to see and do in Paris 🙂 Cant wait till you put some more up 🙂 The one of the tower is fantastic 🙂

I enjoy seeing your photos of Paris, Bertram! I see some spots or views that look familiar from my 2-week stay there in hummm 1964, from which I developed a fondness for it too! Though I learned to use the Metro, I mostly walked, shooting lots of slides with my Petriflex.

For us here in the NW of USA, the nearest equivalent might be visiting Victoria BC in Canada. I recall being taken there on my first airplane ride as a child by my grandmother.

Bertram...zere is no ozer way! Je suis enamore de Paris; on connait la chanson: "J'ai deux amours..."

Thanks for the pics!! You should check mine out at http://www.pbase.com/gabrielma/paris/

Ooohhh... when I've finally got an RF I'll have to shoot a bit in paris 🙂

Very nice pics Bertram, and I see Le Chartier is still there! It's grown rather touristy but I guess the menu is still affordable enough to justify a visit. Still have the old menu from 1994, blew my socks off when I came there last year..

Glad you had a nice trip, I hope to return next may if I can still afford it then 😀

cheers,
Phil

As I see there are some other fans and so I am glad that I posted my note. The next pics will come next weekend, because of fresh chems I always give my rolls to the lab on mondays.
Some have possibly not noticed yed that I have to idendities here, Bertram and Bertram2 , the latter was created at the last migration which did nor work for me first.
In the Bertram gallery there are some more Paris shots from 2004 like this one

http://www.rangefinderforum.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=1931&cat=3234&page=4 which is a re-photographed Atget place.. which has not changed since 1903 when Atget photographed it.
Thanks for all comments, soon more.

Best regards,
Bertram

Thanks for looking Phil ! Yes Chartier is still there and it is still a great place tho grew very touristic indeed. The old garcons are a bit grumpy but I suppose this to come this from all the tourist there. 😉
Nonetheless the food is still very good and it is about the half of what you pay at comparable prices. It was only 5 minutes to go from our hotel and so we went there each night. Hors d'oeuvre, plat et dessert for two and a bottle of Cotes du Provence AOC were alway less than Euro 40,- which must be considered as sensational in Paris.
There are some more photos in the pipline, also B&W. The interior is sensational too, untouched since about 1900.
Regards,
Bertram

Great pics of Paris which is a favourite city of mine. I think the cemetary is a must see as strange as that seems. Must get back there again.

Bob,
it IS a strange place indeed, very crowded and many of the graves look like abandoned.
On the other hand it is fascinaing to imagine that Balzac's or Caillebotte's bones l
are down there standing in front of theire graves.
In Paris you are always in touch with history and I think this is what makes the city so magic. Paris is a conglomeration of the rests of the many cities it has been during it's history, and wandering from one geographic place to another you sometimes can easily touch ten centuries ! And maybe this is the reason one has the impression of an eternal continuity there.

Best,
Bertram

Best explanation I have heard of the magic of Paris and let's not forget Jim Morrison.

Bob

Jim Morrison's grave is so vandalized, it's a real shame...they have a guard there just looking after all the visitors to his grave.

Pere Lachaise is the only graveyard that I actually didn't not enjoy going to (notice the double negative); they give me the creeps...PL also gave me some eerie vibes, but overall it was quite an interesting experience. Don't forget to get your map beforehand!! I forgot mine, and had to more or less go about by memory. I finished the tour with finding Oscar Wilde's tomb, that was worth getting all soaked (and lost for 20 minutes), quite an assortment of offerings there.

Every single time I've been to Paris, something has prevented me from being inside Opera Garnier...any excuse is valid to visit La Ville "des Lumieres" again.

I hope to go back to Paris once again, with my wife and kid.

I went there once, for a day!, with my dad to see the final of Tour de France. Ate ice cream on the terrace of a very expensive restaurant, got ill from the sun, and had a horrible time in the toilet in a road side restaurant somewhere in Belgium. Arrived in Amsterdam early in the morning and had thé most embarrissing toilet time on the station.

The next time, and so far last time, I went to Paris was with a former GF. It was February, so lots of fog (great atmosphere maker, especially in Paris). We stayed in a small room on the 4th floor of a no-star hotel down the road from Moulin Rouge with a view on Sacre Coeur. Got a nice shot of Sacre Coeur, had myself (sic!) a good time in Disneyland, and was glad I could leave Paris. Not because of Paris but because of the GF.

Good stories ! 😀 And: Try harder !!! 😀 My dentist told me it would be sick to take my own wife with me to Paris, he's an idiot full of cliches like an old donkey full of fleas, it's very nice to take your wife to Paris , let me tell you , really inspiring !!! 😉

Best;
Bertram
