Oooh scary. Yes, I have read about coffee. I will be interested to hear about your results. Sad fact of it is right now is that it is all I can do to make time for developing. . . much less experiment with developers. Right before we moved, I had mixed up a patch of Gainer's PC-TEA developer and had had a good roll of film through it. Now it's back to the drawing board.

Coffeenol is in fact a useful developer, at least by virtue of being a lot less toxic than most staining developers. A bit inconsistent and odiferous, but fun in a DIY kind of way.

I'm aching to try Acetaminophenodinal--a Rodinal formula made from Tylenol, lye, and canning preservative. No kidding:

Look in Ryuji Suzuki's website for more ascorbate developers

Also go to APUG and there are a couple of excellent threads in caffenol, even my own caffenol-C recipe.
It works real well.

I've got, and need to mix up one of these days, your homebrew Diafine recipie. As for Acetaminophenodinal, I won't let acetaminophen in my house... that stuff causes more liver transplants a year than anything else. (Seriously. http://www.nytimes.com/2005/11/29/health/29cons.html?incamp=article_popular_2 Nasty stuff.)

And I agree that http://silvergrain.org is a seriously cool website.
