I ran into him once, one day, on a shoot. This was somewhere in the USA so it would be 1979 or 1982.

I knew who he was, but being me, I resisted being a star groupie.

The Nikkormat I was using had jammed up and wouldn't function.

Mr Capinigro kindly took a black changing back he had with him, opened the camera for me and retrieved the film.

He then produced a small screwdriver kit, took out the required 'driver, tinkered a bit with my 'mat and got it working again, in about three minutes.

He had one of his monster cameras with him. Also a Nikon as I recall.

After his shoot I bought him a coffee and we had a pleasant chat about many things.

I have always admired his images. And as a human being, he was among the finest I've ever met.

A great loss, but also a great life, and wonderful images.

What a great story and tribute!
