Have you guys purchased item with check / money order? Assume the seller is supposedly a long time forum member and claimed to have sold a lot of items.
Note: this is over at Get DPI forum

I have accepted and paid via money order in prior transactions here with members with whom I was familiar with and comfortable doing so. I think with every transaction arranged over the internet both the buyer and seller should be aware. Don't go out of your comfort zone. At least those are the rules I try to follow.

Of the two...

Of the two...

I would never pay by check. Out of courtesy to the person on the other end, I always use US Postal Money Orders. That way the money is in the hands of the seller right away... at least they can bank it for instant credit to their account. If it's international, get the pink international postal money orders. Yes. Canada is International.

A check is so messy... Takes the seller 10-14 days often to get credited at their end. They hold the merchandise until the check clears. Who needs that inconvenience.

Of course, I have been using Paypal to pay almost everything for the last decade. The fees are cheap. You can select methods to pay the fees yourself if the person is reluctant. It can be done sitting at your computer....

But never a check. My gosh, how "yester year"?

Scammers, con artists and fraud perpetrators have discovered these forums. This forum does have a feedback system and if they are not listed, they are just as easily "bad" as a call on Craiglst, and certainly potentially worse than eBay.

Being on forums is free and no buarantee of a good transaction. I wouldn't do business with quite a few people I've know for years. (Especially relatives, blood or by law)

My Brother In Law's favorite saying..."I'd rather owe it to you than beat you out of it."
