You save the money if the seller deducts the 3% fee off the price of the item in the form of a discount.

With a Paypal gift, the buyer pays 3% fees when using a credit card. For funds in the Paypal account, no fees are charged. I carry a paypal balance, and really have no problem sending funds free of charge to someone that I have gotten to know.
