Everybody here most likely knows what that is - the electrical connector from a camera to an external flash unit.

The question I have is this - what does 'PC' stand for in the phrase 'PC Sync'?

No trick question - I actually don't know. Anybody?

Hmmmm, that was an interesting question actually - and an interesting answer.

I imagine that asking digital-only photographers the same question, the answer would be involving a 1394 cable or USB2.0 . . .

Archeology reveals:

"Prontor and Compur were both types of shutters, and their companies came together to make a flash triggering standard (PC). More than a few old large format lenses have these shutters including my 65 mm F8 Schneider Super Angulon which has a Compur. The shutters may have passed (Copal has been the shutter of choice for the last 25 years) but the standard lives on."

I didn't know this two makers of shutters cooperated in this case!

I've actually read a few people (the types young enough not to know what LPs and phonographs are, or that before Oasis, there were the Beatles...🙄) who ASSUME that the "PC sync" in their FED RF's would allow these cameras to synch in their Personal Computers in the same way as their IPODs and mobile phones would....😛
