Quite honestly, although it was indeed wonderful to see original prints, the WOW! factor mostly comes from the stunning compositions. It's just that there were a lot MORE of them at Arles.

I was turned onto his work by the late, great photo metro magazine in 1999. Nice to see him continue to in his exploration of themes and receive recognition for it.

Interesting to see the link, thank you - and I hope the gallery does well. It does seem that the auction was yesterday, Thursday, though? Not that I have the cash, or the plan, to start my own photo collection of course!!

Saw the retrospective last year in Helsinki. Mr. Sammallahti himself was present and gave a huge crowd of admirers like me a long and very instructive lecture of his photography. He is a photography teacher by profession so he knows how to talk to a crowd. It was an afternoon really really well spent. He wet prints everything himself and says he's more into printing than photographing. You can expect to see some 'Northern magic' and more than a few real gems.
