Pentax 645Z review at dpreview

will Pentax 645 film camera lenses work on the 645Z ? just curious since I have 2 in mint condition, wonder if their value will go up for almost worthless...

Certainly. Even with the 645D the price of Pentax FA645 lenses went up. Even A 645 lenses bumped up a bit though not quite as much. Even with 51 megapickles those lenses are not out-resolved. Buy the camera and enjoy the lenses.

The 645 FA 45 and the FA 645 33-55 zoom are probably the weakest lenses in the entire line-up and even those are pretty good.

It's a good step for Pentax but I'm surprised how small the actual sensor is. Supposed to be a proper 6x4.5 (in film terms it's some usable 56 x 43 mm) but it's a slightly beefed up Full Frame (FF, or "36 x 24 mm" frame) instead with it's 44 x 33 mm so called "Medium Format" sensor. 645, although being the smallest of the MFs, supposed to be multiple times bigger (offering multiple times better tonality) than the FF, but with the today's digital MF case it's just a small step larger.

We already have a mosquito-size sensored 50MP phone cameras, megapixel count soesn't mean a squat in tonality that comes with the sensor area, it's pure physics and the reason why the LF hasn't gone anywhere. I guess the pros ask if the price worth it to get this kind of relatively small tonal rendering improvement over prosumer FF... Since there isn't much out in the MF digital so far, I guess for some it's worth it.

Good point. I think it's main competitor is really the D800 and not the other medium format systems.
