Digilloyd has some quite impressive image samples from the new Pentax K1 in "SuperRes" mode, both colour and bw. His opinion is that the K1's IQ in this mode is the "finest bw camera on the market", with IQ superior to the Leica S - quite a claim, but see the image samples for yourself. (My caveat is that SuperRes is only suitable for static subjects, though perhaps this will change as the technology evolves).

Link to large bw image.

The colour samples are worth checking out too. [Edit: the original link was to the Digilloyd home page, which has changes since I posted this thread. You need to find the articles for 25 May to see the colour sample images]

There are many digital users on this forum. I'm surprised that you haven't had more responses. It appears that with pixel shifting Pentax now owns that market. But how big that market is is another question.

Holy Guacamole. I have absolutely no idea what Lloyd is talking about. I couldn't make heads or tails of any claim on his site for the Month of May. Too much noise, not enough signal. Anyone remember when Marvel comics went from more or less linear storytelling to pages jam-packed with speech balloons and graphics that spread themselves all over the page? Graphically messy. Narratively impossible. Ugh. Give me TOP or even DPReview any day of the week. It is a parallel world, but we process information serially one bit at at time. My brain feels so last century.

Benjamin, not everyone has such finely crafted writing as Mike Johnston on TOP! Digilloyd's site is one I rarely view, but I was more interested in the image samples than in the presentation, messy as it is. I do empathise with you though. Not many web sites understand principles of clear presentation and readability.

I am a 'Pentax fanboy' ;) Besides AF, which time ago had been a bit behind but their new bodies possibly have closed the gap, and which I didn't mind since I had been using adapted manual lenses anyway, I always have found Pentax dSLRs superior to those of the competitors. Generally good, some bodies great handling ( rather high, not wide bodies with deep grip, good placement of buttons ), high on features, inbody stabilization stabilizing also every old manual lens mounted, no AA filter but if needed simulated through pixelshift, now this high res. mode, and they have very small and top performing primes
Their bodies being rel. small and light had been one reason why I preferred them, since the rise of even smaller and lighter mirrorless bodies which also allow for adapting many more lenses I moved to use those. If I were to buy a dSLR no doubt it would be a Pentax
