Pentax K1000 Returns!

In 1979, my wife and I made our first trip to Europe with a pair oof K1000 bodies and a 40mm pancake and 85mm 2.0. We shot 20 rolls of Kodachrome 64 and had a ball.
I gave those cameras to our daughter when she was in high school. Now she has returned them to me. I've loaded them with Velvia and new batteries, And they'll become my color travel kit.

Thanks for those kind words. I, too, am looking forward to seeing some new pictures. They're loaded with Velvia 50, so as soon as Sonoma county stops with the blazing sunshine, I'll give it a go! Anyone have recommendations re E-6 kits?

And can you post your K1000? They made many different series of that camera, out of curiosity I received today an early K1000SE, early model with brown leatherette, I assume it's more or less a late 70s model as it usually came with the M50 mm f2.0.

The other K1000 I have is one of the early 1976 made in Japan at the tiime they were still producing the entire K series (K1000, KM, KX, K2 and K2DMD) and that came with the K55mm f2.0.

I find E6 to be excellent film myself. I never used Kodachrome but it must have been nice, just not nice enough to overcome the negative value equation compared to E6 slide film.

I haven't shot any colour film since Kodachrome.

Yes, it's the M 85 f2. I bought both new in one order from (I think) 47th St. Photo. One is Japan Asahi, and the other is China. Different battery covers, no Asahi, no logo on the prism, plain focus screen. The china one has some stuff in the prism. I'll use it as backup or replace it if I can find a nice Japan body.

It might be for N Ireland but you have to be able to read the bar on the ribbon to see the campaign. It's the "General Campaign" medal and could be for a lot of things.

The M85 mm is one of my favourite lenses, it's perfect for portraits but can also replace a 50 mm as general purposes lens.

For the K1000, I think it's more likely you'll find a Made in Hong Kong K1000, like my K1000SE, this is the one that just arrived:

As you can see I used a K55 mm f2.0 instead of the M50 mm f2.0 because I prefer the old Takumar/K lens.

That was weird because I was looking at a show and the kid just looked at me while I was taking another pic...this pic to be precise:

I usually avoid to shoot children because in the UK they are becoming paranoid with paedophilia and things like that, the second one didn't come out that great because the lady wasn't collaborative at all (I think it's clear) and there's that annoying black spot from the scan.

However,portraits or not the M85 mm is badass, you can shoot ANYTHING with it:

This is one of the things I love about photography. You work, you prepare, you find a camera and lens you like, but for some reason nothing seems to work. But then, every now and then, one of your off the cuff shots will just reach out and gob smack ya. 😀
