Does anyone know of a good repairer of Pentax SLR film cameras in Australia?
I have an H2 that belonged to my dad that needs a CLA.
May have asked this some years back but cannot find it.
Cheers

I haven't used this person, but if you do a search on Pentax forums he seems to be well regarded: Eric Hendrickson. However, he's based in Tennessee, a bit further north and to the right of Queensland

I'd be interested in Australian Pentax specialists, too.

Thanks Lynn.
I have heard of him. He stopped repairing for about 6 months last year to be able to catch up with the backlog of repairs. He is very good but I would like to keep the camera in OZ.

I would suggest getting in contact with Yoshi of Nagami Camera Service in Melbourne www.nagamicamera.com.au
He lists servicing all makes of 35mm cameras.
I have been very happy with his recent service of my Hi-matic 7s and Yashica-Mat.

John, what repairs were done on your Yashica Mat? I put mine in for service with Sydney Camera Repairs and was most disappointed.

The best camera is one that still works!
I've heard that Anderson's in Brisbane will service most SLRs.

Hi Lynn,
Shutter was jammed. I stupidly used the self timer, worked ok twice but jammed up the third time. Yoshi fixed that, re-calibrated the shutter speeds and general clean and service plus 1 year warranty.
Took about 2 months but that was over Xmas and I know he is quite busy.

If it’s a body with sentimental value that you plan to keep, I would seriously consider sending it to Eric. I recently had my black MX body go through a full CLA and his work is exceptional.
There are people in Aus that will work on a Pentax, but I’m yet to find anyone who is a genuine specialist.

I emailed Nagami Camera a few weeks ago on the email nagamics which was listed on his website but I received no reply. Has anyone contacted him recently? Maybe I used the wrong email but luckily I seemed to have fixed the problem with my camera just half an hour ago.

I believe Yoshi goes back to Japan every so often for an extended trip.
This may well be why there is no reply.

Nick,
I think you are right.
I will look into sending it to Eric in the US.
Where can I find his email addy please?
The camera has great sentimental value and is also a very nice camera to use. The f2.2 lens is very sharp.

Try the owner of Twin City Camera House in Adelaide. Ron was originally trained as a camera tech and still does most of the repair work that comes into that shop. His prices are reasonable, his work is good and his services reliable. He has done multiple repairs and CLA for me though mainly on lenses. Bear in mind though that as nice as it is the H2 is not an expensive camera to buy so even a CLA could match or exceed its economic value ($100-$200 AUD). Of course these cameras (I own several Pentaxes of this era) tend to need cleaning at their age and mostly that all their problem is - so you may get lucky as otherwise they are very reliable. But of course in this case I suppose it is the sentimental value that is important to you.
