I'm wondering if a purple people eater is purple and eats people, or it's a thing that eats purple people?

Bob,
Fantastic shot, but I guess it does need the disclaimer.

Yes, great expressions, but why the disclaimer? Because of the cut off feet?
(Honest question from someone who's not opposed to political correctness, to me it's largely what was once known as common courtesy.)

They're eating melons —— and «Melon» is in the USA not just a fruit, it's also a racial/ethnic slur; BTW: the French use «Melon» as an ethnic slur, too.

I have found that almost everyone who sees racial overtones in the image is white. That includes a gallery curator who refused to include the print in an exhibit saying it was offensive because it was "sterotypically racial".
Yet I have never found a Negro who saw anything racial. There the most common comment is "who gave those kids such a skinny slice of watermelon?"

Those of us who are old timers from the deep south of the US laugh at this. Everyone in our family has never given a racial thought to loving and eating watermelon. Our bloodline is 99% European and .7% Sub-Saharan African. (don't be mislead, my avatar is not me)

Well, I'm prepared to explain how French speaking people use it, probably also the Louisianaises —— and it has nothing to do with someone's fondness for watermelon! It simply means: an African (especially: Arab) person; rationale: «their skin is dark (greenish-dark), but when you slash them, there's quite a lot of red.» ...
