Kodak has discontinued Plus-X. That's not news, you knew that. And I want it back! So how would you feel about drafting a petition to Kodak? And while we are at it, maybe demand that they bring back Panatomic-X as well? Let's vote to show how many miss these films and would like them back. If there are enough votes, I have an idea for how Kodak could manufacture them profitably. Don't vote unless you really want a given film back. We may want to call Kodak's attention to our votes, so we have to be serious.

I'd definitely buy some, as I really enjoyed shooting it. I've been moving to slower and slower films in 35mm lately. Ilford's FP4+ is a great film, but not an exact substitute.

In it's prime, when it was Goliath, Kodak was constantly doscontinuing and substituting its films. Panatomic is an example.
Ektar 25 is another.
So on.

When Kpdak owned the market they didn't go back. Why would they today?

I love Plus-X. Down to Two 100' rolls which I'm keeping for a very special occasion.

Yeah. I hate to be a naysayer, but- this is never gonna happen. I wish it would, because Plus-X was my all-time favorite film in the 1980's, but I just don't see it happening.

What's your idea?

Jim B.

Well, it goes something like this. You know how they make some beer seasonally? Like October dark beer, and so on. Some beers are made all the time, while some are made from time to time. Maybe they could make film like that.

What would be wrong with running a batch of Plus-X for a few weeks. Customers have to grab it when they can. Perhaps we could pre-order it, and the size of the run could depend on the orders placed at the time. If you don't get your order in, you have to wait until the next batch.

When the Plus-X run is over, then they could run Panatomic-X. And how about an occasional run of Verichrome Pan? Remember it? It was a good film!

It has been said that once the production of a film is discontinued, it's hard to make it exactly the same again when going back into production. Maybe so, but Efke/Agfa/Adox seem to have managed, and I'm sure Kodak could if anyone could.

And If the film comes out a little different each time, maybe that's not so bad. I like George DeBoeuf Beaujolais Village. The 2012 may not be the same as the 2011, but it's close enough, and I still buy it. And if the 2013 "vintage" Plus-X has a subtly different palette than the 2006, we'll all buy it just so we see how it's different--or isn't different.

So what do you think?

As much as I love and miss Plus-X, it's never going to happen.
I've accepted that and have started stockpiling 400' cans of Eastman 5222. I'm going to move into the ORWO offerings as well soon.
It's too bad but we've seen the last of the Plus-X. And I have a brick and a couple rolls left...
