Hi!

I might be going to Petra,Jordan(Necropolis not Wadi Ram - that's another time 🙂 ) on a (one) day trip soon.

I'm presuming it's not exactly BW-RF-NORMAL LENS country so I am taking my nikon fm2n with 50/1.4AI; 28/1.8SIGMA/75-150/3.5 SERIES Eand a loaned 300/4.5 AI'ed for color(5-6 rolls of 100, a roll or two 400 iso and one of 1600 fuji) and a yashicamat 124g for b&w(100 across and 400 hp+).

I will take a zorki4 with 50/2 + yellow filter and tmax 100&400 for backup\people shots. A monopod. A hat. Plenty of water.

Any advice\pics you wanna share?

Michael,

Take a light tripod with you and a changing bag.
Once you are at Petra, see if you run into any of the Badool bedouins.
Ask one of them to be your unofficial guide. You will get better photo opportunities with an unoffical guide than the official (tested for English speaking) guides. However, you will have to use hand gestures and talk slowly.

I found it difficult to take photos from horse back, so I walked a lot. Take good hiking boots with you.

I mainly used my 24mm lens with occasional use of a 80-200 lens. Your 300mm lens is useless here. Leave it behind. Keep things simpleand light. You are taking way too much equipment with you, in my opinion. Trim it by 50%.

Have fun.

You're taking too much stuff. It's a walk-around and climbing place. I see you're in Israel -- so going into Petra would much resemble exploring the canyons behind En-Gedi or Masada. I'd take the Nikon and the 28 and the Sigma zoom and if you can afford it, maybe buy an extender. Take the other cameras only if you're into masochism. Basically, you want to take no more stuff than you can fit into a daypack, including a bottle of water, and any personal stuff that you need. It's a good walk in, and it's in sand. I'm not sure you need the monopod; I'd either go without, or take a light tripod as Raid suggests. I took neither, and by the end of the day, was happy I hadn't. Be aware that you can climb up on top -- there's a trail going up the canyon walls, and up on top is "high place." (See the Bible.) Your film array seems okay. Don't forget the hat. And ask some old Israeli guy (60+)about the "Rosy Walls of Petra." 😎

I came back-shot 4 color films and two 6x6 BW ones.

Wonderfull trip. One day is hardly enough.

The lighting was difficult so I dont know how good it turned out.
I used all my equipment(the TLR least of all cause it's more of a color place).
Pics wont be soon(have 8 BW films and 10 color waiting developing, scanning, leveling and posting and my computer's down).
