Found one in near mint condition with working meter
and shutter this weekend, nice easy to focus viewfinder.
Anyone got one? Should I waste $20 on it?
Oh it has the 45mm? F1.8 lens NOT F2.8 lens.

If you don't like it, I will take it off your hands for the 20 + shipping. I had my step-father's with the 2.8. Took it apart in attempt to fix something and never got it back together. :bang:

One of these days I must replace just in case he ever asks about it...

It had some kind've fungus or something affecting the lens so I didn't get to judge the sharpness, but the contrast seemed pretty good.

Rod, FWIW I had the opportunity to remove the base plate on a 7S many years ago and what I saw turned me off. Unless my memory is really bad - and at 61 that's a distinct possibility - I believe that the inner workings use cord and at least one or more pulleys. The one I opened was malfunctioning and the owner asked me to have a look. The 7S was very popular among GI's at one time but I took it off my list when I saw that. That was about 1966 or 1967 as I recall.

I ended up buying a Fujica V2 in the Summer of 1967 and it worked perfectly for a few years when I sold it to a friend who was happy with it the last I heard. The V2 is a RF with a Fujinon 45mm f/1.8 lens and took very very nice pictures.

I have my Dad's 7s, long unused, and had my local friendly camera repair guy give it a lube job. It too is the f/1.8 version, seems to be a good sharp lens. I think the Petri cameras can be considered a lesser breed than Canon, Olympus, Minolta, etc, but certainly not junk. My first SLR was a Petriflex V, not a bad camera but replaced by a Pentax H3 as soon as I handled one and could afford the change.

Hi Rob,
I have 6 Petri 7S's, and just ran a roll through one of them yesterday. Still have another roll in the camera. I'm guessing Walker's memory may be a bit off, sorry but I have a 7S apart in front of me as we speak (I had to know so I took the base plate off one of mine to see) and apart from a thin wire spring, there is nothing to even remotely resemble a string in there. Just plain old brass gears and steel rods. For the money, it's hard to beat either a Petri 7S, Konica Auto S, or Fed %. Just my opinion, hopoe this helps.

Sorry, that should have read "or Fed 5" and "hope this helps". Sheesh, c'mon morning coffee, kick in already.

Thanks for setting the record straight. Now I have to wonder which camera it was that had the string/pulley arrangement. I distinctly remember it and thought it was the Petri-7S. Hmmmmm...

My apologies to Petri and anyone else I may have offended with my poor memory. :( :bang:
