I was given a Petri FT in almost mint shape from a friend. I picked up a few extra lenses for it for dirt cheap, and am almost done shooting my first test roll through it. Has anyone shot one these, and if so, what are your overall thoughts on the FT handling and picture quality. Thanks.

I never owned one but I remember seeing them reviewed in the mags years ago. I think those are screw mount lenses aren't they? They were never considered top tier equipment but many people liked them and I think their lenses were fairly good. That was also one that had the shutter angled on the front of the camera as I recall. I think Petri and maybe Practica had that?

Anyway, I look forward to your impressions of the camera and lenses. There will no doubt be others chime in as I recall several members talking about have the old Petri cameras. The only thing I have is a Petri FL RF. It has done well enough.

A second hand FT was my first SLR, much cheaper than a Spotmatic, which I could not afford. Bought the first one in about 1973 and then got a second body and four lenses, I kept them for about ten years, they took thousands of frames and never missed a beat. Very nice cameras and original Petri lenses are of surprisingly good quality.
Vivitar etc did make Petri bayonet mounts but I bet they will be hard to find now.
I am sure it would be fairly cheap to have overhauled if needed because it is a simple mechanical camera.
Enjoy it.
