I find that after I shoot the 8 my thumb starts to move in a 'film advance motion'. After years of shooting the 6 its like I can't stop.

Sometimes I feel like I have a phantom film advance lever!

Does anyone else feel like there is a phantom lever telling your thumb to push forward?

Doesn't happen to me, maybe it's that annoying motor sound right after the shutter fires that reminds me it's not my M6. But I understand the concept, sometimes while driving if I have to make a panic maneuver my left leg and right arm go into standard-shift mode although I haven't driven a clutch car daily in years. And when I had modern Nikons I would still snap the aperture back and forth everytime I changed lenses, the way I got used to with the Nikon F.

This happens to me all the time. When I catch myself I sometimes even look around to make sure no one saw me do it. Then I have a good chuckle at myself.

It is a very strange feeling to go after that film advance lever only to find it isn't there!

I remember doing that with my old Nikormat and Nikon F's. I think that was called "indexing the lens" if I remember that right.

Man. That's a walk down memory lane!

Get Tim Isaac's Thumbs Up and your "shutter cocking thumb" will have a place to rest and give your sense of touch the placebo it needs to come off the habit.

Carlos...

I noticed on your 8 that you have a rounded shutter release button. Can you tell me where you purchased it from. I've seen them around on other cameras but never was able to source one.

Thx...

ps...nice zenfolio pics!

That particular shutter release is from Leicatime. Luigi makes them out of stainless steel. They can be convex (the one I have) or concave (indented). Don't get the black one, the paint eventually comes off. Tom Abrahamsson also makes softreleases on his site, Rapidwinder. Tom's are made of anodized aluminum and come in a variety of colors.

Thanks for the kind words. You should also hit my flickr gallery which has newer stuff.

Thank you for the information. This is very helpful to me and I will look at your Flicker site tomorrow when I have a bit more time.

Thx
