The gray (concrete) to the right and the placement of both lines make it a very stable image, apart from being one that offers the contrast of two worlds implying lots of things to think of... Very beautiful image!

I don't get it. What’s with the pseudo boarders ?

It makes the photo look like it was shot on 35mm negative film printed in an enlarger with a neg carrier that has had its opening filed to allow the borders to show. The strange lines outside the frame result from light reflecting from the filed edges of the metal carrier.
