Hello dear RFF members!
I have been approached by a person that has a photo database (?) for pictures of the more arty kind, that wants to start carrying my pictures. Since I have absolutely no experience of such a thing I was wondering if you guys/gals had some tips on what to be aware of and how much is reasonable to demand as percentage, if/when he sells any of my images etc etc... Would greatly appreciate any thoughts on the matter!
Will be meeting him in a couple of hours.
Thank you,
Mattia

Written contract
Hello,
Make a clear written contract - this is the best advice.
And understand all before you sign.
Be sure that company concentrate intellectual property rights.
About commissions, it's very hard to say what is the level, again the most important is that there is a clear rules.
I start-up a new photo portal, the beta version is now released and marketing is started, I'm an amateur photographer and I understand photographer point of view.
I can tell our comissions and other rules by email if someone is interested.

Pricing
Pricing
Hi,
This 50/50 doesn't sound so good for photographers point of view.
It means in practice that photographers need to sell a huge amount of photos if they like to get good profit. Of course it depends what's the avarage price for one photo.
For example our company have different philosophy for pricing, photographers get normal 70% of net sales.
I have a personal experience for selling some of my own photos to book publisher and I know how much they are ready to pay.
Overall the pricing must be clear for each party, clear written contract is the basic.
And easy-to-use pricing toolbox is advantage.
And photo buyers point of view: country specific prices, own currencies etc. clear process.
