That 'domestic eel used, eel bento' for 500 Yen is just toooo cheap, in store, it'll be 1,500 Yen (to-go price) at least! i was in Okinawa a few years back, eating braised eel w rice everyday, the restaurant owner tells me that the eels are from Taiwan!

Railroad bento culture is from Japan, Japan ruled Taiwan for half a century, most of the railroad of Taiwan was build by Japanese..., the words 'Bento', means 'convenient box' was from Japan, 便當= '弁当' are Kanji; in their own 'simplified Chinese' way of writing

thank you for the cultural lesson Taipei-san. Bento in trains are famous in Japan, supposedly really good quality too, but I never had any, only had a few local train trips.
I didn't know or remember that the bento the woman on my pic was selling had been eel bento, great that you can make it out from the Kanji.

that day I did not get lunch from this woman, selling bento in a business district of Osaka for sallery men,
for the need of sitting down I went to a small, private restaurant instead
