why the need to be nit-picking Peter?
Errr. No, the note says "in einer Stunde" which literally translates to "in one hour". That, as I understand my mother tongue, does not mean "within the next hour". It's a general statement that rather be translated as "every hour". His German isn't perfect, but I doubt that selling 7 newspaper within the next hour only would suffice him to afford a family ( he says "leisten" = afford, not "to have", as you say, which would be "haben". "next hour" would be "in der naechsten Stunde" or in more smooth German "in der kommenden Stunde")

If you are right, with my limited knowledge of the German language, I'd expected to read...'jeder stunde' but who am I? My original comment...I used to have dinner with these guys at the student cafeteria in the Netherlands....all selling the same kind of newspapers...subsided by the same local government...and almost all hooked on something.

"ich muss jede Stunde 7 Zeitungen verkaufen damit ich.." would be more smooth than he wrote, correct, possibly best here would be "Ich muss 7 Zeitungen pro Stunde verkaufen.."
