'Not sure if this was a one time deal but I picked up a Smart Disk Photo Bank yesterday at Staples for $36.00. ($157 and change on Amazon.) 40 gig unit, takes a variety of cards including SD and was "plug and play" on my Vista OS PC. A bit off topic here in RD1-land but will certainly be a welcome addition for our next trip with my Rd-1 in tow. Not a fancy unit and I don't reuse SD cards when traveling but the secure feeling of a backup for what I shoot is worth the purchase. :D

Do you have an Ipod? With an adapter you download right into the ipod no need for the computer until you get home!

Yes, I do have a Video iPod and I tried to use it last year on a trip with very poor results with just a Sony Cyber Shot. It was extremely show. When I got home I found I needed to format the iPod as it wasn't running like it should and this sorta' set me up to look for an alternatvie. It might have been my particular iPod although I doubt it.
I have tried using a card reader to get an SD card from the RD-1 into the iPod but it needs a camera to recognize that you're attempting to download images. As we know, the RD-1 has no USB out, not that that's an issue for me. I usually use card readers anyway.

Really? I thought the image transfer was super slow and others have said their ipod batteries often go flat in the process.

Burkey,
How good does the Smart Disk Photo Bank work? Does it transfer the Epson RAW files as well as the jpeg's?

Thanks,
Michael

Michael - it's pretty fast and appears to handle RAW files without slowing down much at all. JPEGS too. I was surprised when I checked out with the Photo Bank that it scanned into Staples system at such a low price. It's not fancy and the screen just monitors the downloads but that's really all I need.

Saxshooter - The few times I've tried the iPod with adapter it was extremely slow and did in fact drain the battery. Only small point and shoot camera files too. It's unfortunate it doesn't work better. It would be a great resource in the field. The Hyper Drive looks great by the way.
