Prime Hook Refuge seeks entries for photography contest
Building on the outstanding success of last fall’s contest, Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge is sponsoring its second annual Nature Photography Contest in the fall of 2005. Entries will be accepted in three categories: Delmarva Scenery (landscapes or seascapes—containing no manmade structures), Native Wildlife (birds, animals, insects, amphibians, etc.) and Native Flowers and Plants. Both adults (those over 18) and students (17 or under) may submit up to two photographs in each category.

Entries should be color prints no larger than 12”x16”, matted in white. The entries will be on display in the Refuge Auditorium from Oct. 1 to Oct. 25. The judging and awarding of prizes will take place during the Refuge’s fourth annual Waterfowl Festival Oct. 8.

A grand prize of $100 will be given to the photograph judged Best in Show. Winners in each category will receive monetary prizes as well. An entry fee of $5 per photograph or six photographs for $25 will be charged. There will be no entry fee for students. Checks should be made payable to the Friends of Prime Hook NWR. The Friends of Prime Hook NWR Inc. is a nonprofit corporation whose mission is to support educational, environmental, and recreational activities at Prime Hook NWR, and increase public awareness of the role that the refuge and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service play in preserving habitat for native plants and animals.

All entries should be either mailed or delivered to the Refuge Office at 11978 Turkle Pond Road, Milton, DE 19968 and be received by Sept. 25.
Those interested in submitting photographs are urged to contact the Refuge at the above address or call 302-684-8419 in order to obtain a fuller description of the contest rules.
