Photo/developing critique? First time with Tmax 400

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this... but I was hoping to get some input on this. I'm still fairly new to B&W film, and this is my very first roll of Tmax 400.

This is just a flat bed scan, and I didn't do any PP on it. But it seems like there isn't much detail left on the leaves. Does it look like it was overexposed? Overdeveloped?

It could benefit from some tweaking in post, but I'd say the foundation is good. No problem with exposure or development.

As to sharpness, this is a brick wall test, right, so who cares about leaves? Kidding kidding... If your focus was on the sign, that would explain why the more distant leaves aren't as sharp. But my impression is of movement, as from a bit of wind. The wall seems sharper than the trees.

Looking at the full size image, it looks like you have a lot of detail in the shadows, including the leaves. Where the leaves are in full sun they do look saturated, but I don't know how you would avoid that - they would also look that way to your eye.

That's pretty good considering it's such a difficult exposure. I photograph these types of scenes a lot and they are damned difficult to get right.

A polarising filter will eliminate leaf shine. Cameras (digi and film) pick up more shine from leaves than we see with our eyes.

Kirbot. Scan looks good. If that without PP you might want to check out Chris Crawford's scanning tutorial on his website for how to scan an image to look flat but process well.

I agree with you, Keith. This looks great. Harsh sun with dark shadows is something I still have trouble with too.
