Interesting that the photo is referred to as "a print", I was under the impression that daguerrotypes were unique positive images, no printing involved.

the print refers to a copy of the daguerreotype , where it is copied by photographic means and prints made from the negative.
this was common from the 1850s onwards, esp. after the intro of the wet plate process.

Wait wait wait...one, dmr is right, where is the motion blur? Daguerrotypes in the beginning had a long exposure time. Unless they had perfected the sensitivity of the plates in less than a few years (ha ha)...this is highly implausible.

And how did they "authenticate" this? That thin, old woman has no feature resemblance to the portraits made of Costanze during her 20s and 30s. Not even the eyebrows look the same!! Authenticated how??

I think it was the same research team who authenticated the AWOL memo that Dan Rather still says is authentic, even tho it was written in Microsoft Word 35 years ago

or maybe Geraldo authenticated it when he found it in Capone's vault 😉

Apparently it's authentic in the sense that the hoax is almost that old and traceable to a Mozart biographer/groupie. Interesting in its own right. Maybe I can make a daggeureotype back for my RB67...😱
