First time out with the pinhole on the Sony A7 ...

Sony A7 + Skink Pinhole Zone Plate 24mm
ISO 128000 @ f/71 @ 1/250 sec

Thanks for looking! Comments always appreciated.

Thank you!

I think the Sony A7 is the best digital pinhole camera I've worked with yet. It's extreme sensitivity capabilities make it so easy. :)

Cool pics. Very dream-like.

I there a lens-like material over the hole, or is it just a hole? If the latter, I would be worried about dust getting on the sensor....

You can always clean the sensor - I can't imagine that it is too difficult.
I seem to have done a reasonable job on my GF1 using a kit I bought on Amazon. The test shot of the white piece of paper seemed OK compared to the one before the clean. Just needed a steady hand and a good eye glass! What I think you are doing is cleaning a flat piece of glass.

But you could have shot it at only ISO 64,000 with a 1/125th second exposure! ;)

Seriously though, I really like this result and it's making me want to fit a pinhole to one of my DSLRs and take it for a whirl. :)

Thanks for all the comments!

The Skink pinholes are real pinholes. The Skink zone plate and zone sieve disks, however, are microdot quality printing onto a film substrate. This photo was made with the f/71 Zone Sieve disk.

Sensor dust is something to be aware of, but with ANY f/47, f/71, f/127 or f/219 pinhole you're going to see some dust no matter what. Such small apertures will highlight even the most microscopic dust particles on the sensor stack. There are at least 20-30 spot cleanups in this image (very easy to do with Lightroom), and that's on a recently cleaned sensor. Those spots simply are not visible at f/16-f/22, or any larger lens opening, in normal use.

When you're doing pinhole work, you learn to live with and clean up dust spots... It's a fact of life. I don't worry about it. :)

With most DSLRs, the best you can achieve is about a 40mm pinhole due to the mount register and swinging mirror.
