All,

most photo sharing websites work like this:
- you upload YOUR photos
- you share these with your friends (or the pubic)

I am looking for something that works the other way around:
- I create an 'event'
- I allow my friends (or the pubic) to upload THEIR photos of that event all in the same place

I just got married and all my friends and family took pictures on dozens of cameras. Now I am looking for an easy way to consolidate all this.

I am thinking about using Dropbox, but that requires my friends to join before they can upload. I'd like to avoid any joining or registration.
My old Apple MobileMe website could do what I need, but that service no longer exists.

Any suggestions?

thank you!

Flickr supports private, invitation-only groups. But registration is of course required...

Do you want to collect everybody's high-res photos for archival purposes? Or just have a gallery thing where people can view each other's pictures? For the latter, I honestly don't think anything beats Facebook in terms of ease of use (you can create a "secret" group and invite people -- or a private event), assuming most of your friends and family have Facebook accounts already.

Also: congrats! 🙂

Thank you Andersju!

Yes I want to collect the high resolution versions, and even some videos.
I'll look into Facebook again, but several of our guests are not on it.

Maybe I can set up an FTP server and send the link around. But would my mom figure that out?

Everybody lives spread all over the world. Maybe I'll ask them to mail me a cd or USB drive ;-)

Best regards,
Dries

Hi PKR,

thank you, that was my first thought as well. Problem is that many guests took several dozens of photo's and some videos. All too large to send via email.

So my main challenge is not how to share the photo's, but how to collect and consolidate them.

Best regards,

Dries

How about create an account on one of the image sharing sites and give all involved the login and let them upload at will.

All,

thank you for your help and suggestions!

In the end, the simplest solution was to use dropbox.
While not perfect (registration needed), it turned out to be the most efficient way to collect large number of files from different people.

Now, if doodle can make something similar in the same simple way as their main service...
