photoflo streaking nightmare.

@sepiareverb - Your link to Photo-Wipe is not working for me. Can you check it, please?

Thanks.

No it is broken here now too. Must have been because I was signed in to the Tidi Products site. I changed the link to a supplier- not one I've used- the first hit on Google. Mods- if that link shouldn't be there feel free to break it, or ask me to.

Google "Tidi 911898" (white wipes) or "Tidi 911900" (blue wipes) You'll get there. I've not found anywhere to buy just one box, you might ask at your health clinic.

If you use Photo-flo, and I do, make sure to rinse your reels and tanks thoroughly so build-up does not occur over time, which can cause problems with your developer.

I use sprint End Run mixed with distilled water, followed by a wipe down with half a Photo-Wipe which used to be a standard item for all photo supply stores. Sadly discontinued as a Photographic item and now a medical supply. We use Kodak Photo Flo at work, again mixed with distilled water, at half the recommended amount of stock solution. Photo Wipes are the sure solution to drying marks. At work we had a terrible time with students having films covered in marks. None anymore.

A half a minute to a minute in the wetting agent, followed by a single pass with a fresh half a Photo Wipe, and hang to dry. Films dry faster so have less chance for dust to stick, as the excess Wetting agent is absorbed by the wipe.

I've used this method since 1982 or so and never have marks or dust.

Are these what you use?

Lots of interesting procedures described, I'll add mine of 40+ years developing film. You generally get streaks because "stuff "is left on the wet emulsion. That "stuff" can consist of too concentrated PhotoFlo solution, excess water, dust, hair, etc. I have found that to eliminate streaks and dust I must squeegee my film after using PhotoFlo. I mix appx 1/2 capfull to 32 oz tap water at about 70*F and agitate 1 to 3 minutes. Remove and squeegee between fingers and then do a final squeegee with a wetted and squeeged SPONGE squeegee. In the 40+ years of developing I have rarely gotten a scratch from this procedure. I would suggest you try any of the mentioned procedures that appeal to you and then settle on the one that works best for you.
