RFF member, Phil DeVries, has been a McArthur grant recipient. He was in the group with Lee Friedlander and Susan Meiselas although Phil was recognized for his biological diversity research.

Phil is a professor at the University of New Orleans. He has an extensive body of work of New Orleans French Quarter street musicians and performers plus another on hurricane Katrina aftermath. We shot together on some of the Katrina work as there was some overlap in my series and his. We frequently communicate and serve as sounding boards for each others work.

I'm delighted to see this. In college I had the pleasure of spending a semester studying under Dawoud Bey in college. The man is incredible. To this day it remains a standout experience.
