Dear Friends, I would like to share with you this nice experience.
One week ago I was in Germany on a business trip. Saturday Sept. 2, at 8 PM, I was in Frechen (not far from Cologne) with my Kiev 4 hanging on my neck: a German man (he told me to be a professional photographer) stopped me and kindly asked to see my camera. He congratulated for it and he told me that Kiev is a sturdy and wonderful camera, able to offer astonishing results.
In short, we discussed about rangefinder photography: at the end, he insisted to give me as a gift a pack of new films he had stored at home.
He delivered the pack to my hotel, but he did not want to give me his name: he just told me to consider it as a gift from a photo-friend.
I am still surprised for his friendly and kind behaviour: a simple, old camera can be a great way to meet friends all over the world!!!

I somehow don't expect a friendly photojournalist to hand me a few Secure Digital cards when I've got my D50 around my neck. 😉

What a wonderful encounter! A few weeks ago I was in Stratford, ON, visiting my my daughter. Walking back to the car after brunch, I noted an older couple, the man had a Domke bag on a park bench and he appeared to be changing lenses. When we reached them, I commented that I have the same bag (actually, it was a slightly different model), and we chatted for awhile. He uses an M2; it was a warm exchange and I was so glad to just have a few moments with someone who obviously loved the craft.

A few weeks ago I was shooting at the Pike Place Market with my M2. I noticed a man slow down and look at my camera very closely. A big smile came over his face and in a thick south american accent he said "We must be the only ones left". We chatted for a few minutes. He bought his M2 in 1982 and it's his favorite as well. It was a really nice encounter.
