It's been 45 years since Australia last meted out the death penalty, that was in 1967 with the hanging of Ronald Ryan in Melbourne. The last execution in the UK occurred three years earlier. But the death penalty in still inflicted in the USA, where three thousand people are waiting to be executed. The customary part of an American prisoner's final day before execution is the last meal. New Zealand photographer Henry Hargraves has a lot to say about the death penalty and he uses his art to express his beliefs. In a photo series called No Seconds, he's recreated the last meals served to American prisoners on their final day.

Intriguing ... I heard this on the radio today and thought I'd provide links here and would be interested to hear people's opinions.

(please keep the topic of this thread about the art/motivation of the photographer and not a discussion about the rights or wrongs of capital punishment)

Thanks for posting. I'm always interested in how art is motivated - the story behind it. I would also like to see more than one picture about this theme, however can't seem to find the right link....

Hi Ron ... if you click on the hot link No Seconds it takes you to his website and you can scroll through the images with back and forward buttons. 🙂
