Photographing the Photographer... post yours

furcafe, you are very well-attired and well-equipped for a "tweed ride." curious though: what exactly is a tweed ride? btw, nice kit and great vest, too.

Chris -- ya look sharp.

Interesting material on the Bell & Howell Foton. My guess would've been that Foton sales fell short of predictions.

So I took a quick look:

In any case, some of the shooters are multitasking.

Thanks, somebody has to play the part of HC-B or Capa (since I was using a Rolleiflex & Contax II).

Yes, I use the Foton quote as my signature not just because I love the Foton, but also as a funny reminder that marketing is often @ odds w/reality. I don't believe Bell & Howell came close to selling 20,000 Fotons in total. Mr. Gandy's article (http://www.cameraquest.com/foton.htm) references a high estimate of 16,900, but he is skeptical. I share that skepticism & would guess that he's right that the real figure is closer to total Kodak Ektra production (2,500). Per the article you cite, it seems the only people who ended up actually using the Foton professionally were sports photographers, & they were still being used into the 1960s, though w/reflex housings (I think Don Goldberg, Sr., DAG's father, built some of them).

heh, heh. I've already got the mustache (though my Mrs. wants me to get rid of it), the bicycle and some tweed (though I'm not sure any of fits anymore). Tweed is scratchy, however, so I can't imagine wearing to ride anything but a high wheeler. Looks like a fun event. One thing is certain: they all look better in tweed than I do in Spandex. Thanks for the link.
Thanks, I wasn't riding, just shooting.

You can click on the link below my photo to see photos of the tweed riders & their bikes. It's pretty self-explanatory, but for background here is an NPR story:

For some reason I've lost the ability to insert images in a post.....has something changed?
