Photography lessons in Phoenix, AZ?

I used that snapfactory link and one of their offerings looked interesting, so I signed up. A single day session for studio lighting. I have no experience at all in that direction. The morning is instruction and the afternoon is working with a model.
Sounds like fun.

Found these sources for photo workshops in AZ. One is through Arizona Highways and the other through a company in Tempe.

Would love to hear how you liked it. I will probably wait for the AZ Hwys workshop (still need to work on wife to let me take a class with a model in the curriculum 🙂)

The event is probably worth the price but I think that once you've take 3 pics of the rocks around Page you've take them all, so the location would not be of interest to me.

There was a discussion thread about mentoring on photo.net, lots of responses, wonder if one would have more luck there finding some in person advice? Then again, their discussion turned into musings about old photogs and yound female models.. I guess aspiring amateurs of pure heart (like me) just can't get a break...

I just really can't share your lack of enthusiasm for desert landscapes.
I'd say that the greatest danger you'd face on a workshop like that would be to come away with the same sort of shot that's been done many times over.
I'd take that as a challenge, were I to attend.

De gustibus non disputandum, as they say, and it's just me being tired of Arizona. There was a time a few years back where I got prety excited about AZ lanscapes but that, unfortunately, has passed. Now it all just looks brown 🙂 I seriously don't think humans were meant to inhabit these parts...

I guess I'm at the other side of the spectrum.
It took me years of living here before I began to appreciate it. I still miss the greens of Virginia, but I now "get" Arizona.

Thanks for sharing your experience Steve. Pretty cool portraits, I like the B&W especially.

Speaking of shooting Arizona, I drove out yesterday east on US60, to the town of Superior, home of the World's Smallest Museum 🙂. As you probably know, it's been a sleeper town for years after the mining stopped and it still has that deserted look - abandoned buildings, old graffiti, etc - but not for long I think as the mine is opening again. Very nice folks, btw. Will post any pics that came out (slides mostly, being developed).

But, yesterday was *not* a smart day to do outside photographing - my Hexar RF quickly got uncomfortably hot and, after 20 minutes of walking in full sun down Main Street, my head must have been near boiling point - it took an hour in the nearby Mexican restaurant and many glasses of water to cool off.

As, as I was retreating in my car, AC blasting, I saw this cowboy-looking hiker, dark shirt, a brown vest, long pants, medium size backpack, a hat - calmly walking through the town, not a sign of heat fatigue on him. I was impressed, to say the least. Unfortunately, I didn't take a pic of him 🙁
